Hi Metallifucks!
Jan 23rd would have been the 38th birthday of my dear friend Paul K Manzo II (aka “Motorcity Sanitarium”) and I know if he had beaten the cancer he had been battling for so long he would be hounding the shit out of me & Dave to make it up to see Jason Newsted play again with Metallica when they are inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame at Public Hall in Cleveland Ohio on April 4th!

So in the memory of Paul and to also show appreciation for Metallica offering an “olive branch” out to Jason I will try my best to upload a bulk of my Metallica Master recordings between now and the anniversary of his passing 6 months later. Please no requests as I want to do it on my own terms.

The Third show I want to offer is from Freedom Hall in Johnson City, Tennessee that is basically a high school gym….. so the “snakepit” stage setup took up almost all of the floor…… there was only about 20 feet between the front point of the stage and Big Mick at the soundboard!

If burning to cdr start disc 2 with Track 10 James Speaks & disc 3 Track21 Nothing Else Matters

This is a gem, as Miles kicks out a truly funktastic set. Damn, I’m listening to it as I write this, and having trouble focusing on what I’m typing. He’s the hypnofunkinjazzafusion master. Yea, I made it up, so what?

That time, ’68-’74, was probably my favorite Miles era. Not too far away from his long hiatus as he was on the verge of being completely burnt-out, but the genius of his talents really shined during that rough time.

Nice FM cap, ripe for the remaster process. I retracked it from the one big file it came in, then kicked it up with some life. Beautiful performance deserved beautiful sound.

Notes:

- This source is nearly flawless. This is a must have for anyone with the slightest interestĀ  in Miles. There are two other sources I found that circulatate, LL126, and LL127. Both are basically identical in sound. LL126 is shn (not seekable) and LL127 has SBE’s. For these reasons alone, this is the superior source.

- As Peter explains below, Agitiation and Footprints were played on this date, but are missing from this source.

- “Agitation” and “Footprints” were not broadcast and do not appear on any issued recordings of this date. The opening ascending run and set-up for the theme to “‘Round Midnight” isĀ  missing on JMY and Golden Age of Jazz. In addition, the tunes are wrongly indexed on JMY:
1. ‘Round Midnight (8:05);
2. No Blues (13:05);
3. Mascalero [sic] (8:40);
4. I Fall in Love Too Easily (9:00);
5. Riot (5:30);
6. Walkin’ (9:40);
7. On Green Dolphin Street (16:50);
8. The Theme (0:40).

Notes

The Miles Davis Quintet’s 1960 European tour featuring John Coltrane marked the end of the most dynamic front line partnership since Dizzy Gillespie And Charlie Parker. This edition Features the Quintet’s complete April 8 1960 performance at Kongresshaus in Zurich Switzerland. Miles And Trane really stretched out on these tunes averaging about 14 minutes per song – superbly backed by Wynton Kelly – Paul Chambers & Jimmy Cobb. This release also contains 4 bonus tracks of Davis And Coltrane accompanied by another star trio Bill Evans Paul Chambers And Philly Joe Jones – at New York’s Cafe Bohemia on May 17 1958. This phenomenally rare performance is a bonus gem worthy of this edition. Total Time : 77 :01.

AUD. – Cliff’s Final Show

Clifford Lee “Cliff” BurtonĀ (February 10, 1962 – September 27, 1986) was anĀ AmericanĀ musician, best known as theĀ bass guitaristĀ for the AmericanĀ heavy metalĀ bandĀ Metallica.

Burton joined the band in 1982 and performed on its debut studio album,Ā Kill ‘Em All. He performed on two more Metallica albums,Ā Ride the LightningĀ andĀ Master of Puppets, both of which met with major commercial and critical success. Burton was known for his “lead bass” approach, in which the bass played a melodic and soloist role, in addition to holding down the harmonic and rhythmic foundation of the band.

On September 27, 1986, Burton died when the band’s tour bus over-turned in rural southernĀ Sweden. Burton was posthumously inducted into theĀ Rock and Roll Hall of FameĀ withĀ MetallicaĀ on April 4, 2009.
