Editorial Comment:
Sound A/A+
Performance A/A+

- Amazing digital recording without any interruptions from
start to finish. Only the most minor of btwn song crackles
can be heard from the poor extraction. A SBD recording with
an obvious “live mic” feed that provides wonderful atmosphere
and intimacy with the crowd that seems more like DMB was live
at a club show than at the huge Soldier Field. Being a Dead
Head, this reminds me of some Grateful Dead FM’s like 4/27/77
or even some of the Healy Matrix’s. Incredibly sound and and
easy A rating if not an A+ (save for the tiny extraction issues)

- A typical incredible show from the Summer Tour 2001. Try
to find a bad one. The Band is in top form and Dave is in a
great mood. Highlighting material from the Lillywhite/Busted
stuff album but including a nice section of both DMB classics
and fan favorites. Plus a wonderful guest appearance from Buddy
Guy and an all-time classic version of Angel.

Rest in peace, Roi. We all love and will miss you.

As we sat this afternoon contemplating the loss of our brother, we wondered how we could possibly do a show today. Dave put it into perspective stating, “There’s no place I’d rather be than here with you guys right now.” We cherish special memories of our lost friend. Tonight, Dave told a story about LeRoi at a bar in Virginia where the cash register was near the stage and LeRoi leaned on the register because “standing had become a chore”. Roi proceeded to play the most beautiful version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow. Dave said, “that was the day I fell in love with him. And I’m still in love with him.” It’s safe to say we all were in love with him. “It’s always easier to leave, than to be left.” -DM

Show Comments

Salem College is an all-girl school in Winston Salem. I got a call from Carter about 4 that afternoon telling me they were coming into town. They had a local sound company come in and do the PA, Jeff was on FOH. Probably about 50 or so people there. I ran a matrix from my AT-813′s and a stereo feed from the board, thru my Yamaha MM10 Portable Mixer. Mainly board, very little room, very clean mix. This was in the cafeteria of the school. NO ONE (including the band) has this, there was a DAT in the FOH rack but Jeff didn’t bother to roll it.

This show doesn’t appear on any of the sites (antsmarching, etc.), so it’s one of those “lost shows”. Except for about 10 seconds of diginoise/droput in the 2nd set where the tape got chowed when my 3700 was screwing up, it’s PRISTINE.

This is hot DMB, when they were NOBODIES and had no idea they were going to break. They’re just a hungry young band, trying to make it out of Charlottesville. The “Rick” that Carter is dedicating Halloween to is ME!

The band had originally asked me to sit on this (in ’94). It’s been long enough that I don’t think they’d mind it getting out. My master is the ONLY COPY of this show.

Please show me the respect of passing this on as you’ve found it, and including this text file (signed & unmodified) in any upload.

Enjoy!!
