Original notes:

Don’t know a whole lot about the source on this one
I got it as an unedited cd. Its a rebroadcast on June 29th,
1998 of the Westwood One In Concert series
complete with radio announcer and commercials.
I cut out the commercials and most of the DJ’s mindless
ramblings. The idiot was saying things like “your listening
to songs from AIC’s album Dirt” This show is from 1990 moron.
I guess all you need to get on the radio is an annoying
voice that can sell soap, not any knowledge about music.
I left his overdubs in on my first go at this recording,
but after listening to it I couldn’t stand his voice.
The shows flows much better without him and you can’t
hear the edits(Shameless self-praise). I left him in
at the beginning and end of the disc to make it seem
like more of a radio show. Anyways, the great people
at westwood one also edited Layne saying Shit during
man in the box. They did a horrible job and tried to
make it sound like he was saying “shove my nose in IT”
Well, it didnt work, so what we are left with is a
really bad edit that sounds like a skip. Isn’t America
great? Also an edit during another song, I forget which
one, same censorship gone wrong thing. Other than that
great show, great sound. The name comes from in the
show Layne says, “We’re Happier than Snot to be
here tonight.”

notes:

I bought this 3 disc LP boxed set (and a few other syndicated radio show discs) at a flea market a few years ago and am just getting around to digitizing them.

Apparently Westwood One reshuffled the TH setlist to suit their needs – I used the track order as they appear on the records.

The Big Business / I Zimbra medley seems to be a creation of Westwood One as well.

The discs included radio spots and DJ announcements which I have edited out.

My Morning Jacket – 12/31/2006 – San Francisco, CA

My Morning Jacket
NYE 2006
The Filmore
San Francisco, CA

“There have been many epic My Morning Jacket shows over the past decade – their “coming-of-age” afternoon set in the rain of Bonnaroo 2004; their marathon late night set there four years later; the hometown party in Louisville at Waterfront Park in August 2008; and the huge NYE gig a few months later at Madison Square Garden. Any of these concerts could have made our list, but it was MMJ’s New Year’s Eve 2006 run at The Fillmore that takes the cake. The band was experiencing huge growth, both musically and in terms of ticket sales and would soon be dubbed “America’s best live band” byRolling Stone, LA Weekly and many JamBase writers to name a few. This show put them on one of the most famous stages in the world on the biggest night of them all and they killed it.

The three-night extravaganza culminated in a sprawling NYE celebration that included an ambitious theatrical element inspired by the old video game The Oregon Trail. The mood was built upon a “Donner Party meets Little House On The Prairie” theme with the band dressed as settlers and native Americans, and the spirits came to life with a number of well executed skits that eventually found bassist Two-Tone Tommy coming back from the dead and killing his bandmates in retribution for eating him earlier in the show (food was scarce on the trail). And that was just the backdrop for a night of extremely well played classic Jacket tracks mixed with rare nuggets and a slew of covers including AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell,” Kool & The Gang’s “Celebration,” Lionel Richie’s “All Night Long,” Wham’s “Careless Whisper” and Prince’s “I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man.” The show was an instant classic. But like most of the bands that really stick with us, a Jacket concert is more than just a rock show. It’s big, heady stuff and has the ability to open us up and help us feel and connect. It’s an experience, and on NYE 2006 My Morning Jacket seized the moment and created something special. What The Fillmore run announced was a world class band with ambitions beyond just performing their songs well.”

Comments: I have seen this recording labeled incorrectly so many times. Some of the vague dates this show goes by include “Apollo 1986″ or “Apollo 1984.” With the advent of the internet and search engines there really is no excuse for not spending 5 minutes to research the date and venue of many shows.

Regardless, this show is correctly labeled as April 19 1986…see the included show advertisements. From what I can gather this show was broadcast on WBLS 107.5 FM (note the occasional station identification voice overs). However, it is weird that the FCC didn’t get after them for all the profane language delivered by Run DMC.

Sadly, the Beastie Boys set has never surfaced.

Notes: Excellent sbd recording (A). I’m hesitant to give an A+ because it does sound a bit flat at times. No digital glitches, cuts or flips that I could find. No hiss or distortion. Very clean recording. Announcer at the beginning, before the encore, and after the last song. It’s not a mistake, they did play the same song again for the encore.

Liner notes:
————

In the spirit of our previous “BBC Archives” series (after “BBC Archives 1967-1969″ and “BBC Archives 1970-1971″), Harvested is proud to finally present “BBC Archives 1974″! In 1974, the BBC taped the second set (The Dark Side On The Moon) and the encore (Echoes) of the Floyd performance at Wembley Empire Pool, on November 16. However, Echoes was never broadcast, and for many years only the DSOTM set was circulating from broadcast sources.

In recent years, recordings taken from the BBC pre-FM tapes began to circulate, some of them including the long lost soundboard version of Echoes. However, none of these RoIOs are fully sonically satisfactory in our opinion. Most of them are processed and used some kind of noise reduction, sometimes very slightly (the Sirene releases), and other times more heavily (the Winston remasters, “Time In London”) The rare, unprocessed versions currently circulating, like the “FM Pre-Master” Russian bootleg, are pleasant but not without a certain amount of hiss, which reveals that the lineage was not without some generational loss. The hiss from the unprocessed versions available until now is probably one of the reasons why so much NR was used on the various remaster projects.

After much research, Harvested found a superior source, totally unprocessed, with much less hiss than the other unprocessed versions circulating until now. A spectral analysis of the audio file showed that this source was very pure and could be the result of direct transfer from the BBC masters.

However, it is well known that the BBC mastering of that concert sounds rather dry and flat, especially the DSOTM set and our source was no exception. Therefore, we felt this new source needed the “Harvested treatment,” in order to make this recording really shine, with good dynamics. The remastering was done very carefully in an attempt to leave the music intact, avoiding NR, dehissing, or any other processing that would generate artifacts. The majority of the remastering work consisted of adjusting the audio levels, balancing the recording when needed, and bringing more clarity and depth by applying specific EQ settings here and there. The final result sounds great to our ears and this version boasts excellent dynamics and a well defined high end without the flaws present on most of the other sources. This CD is free from all NR artifacts, the amount of hiss is minimal, and the low frequency noise that can be clearly heard on all of the currently circulating versions of Echoes (especially during the quiet parts) is not present here.

“BBC Archives 1974″ brings you this famous BBC recording in its most complete form (the lines,”I’ve been mad for f*cking years…,” as well as the applause and tuning between Eclipse and Echoes are present), offering the best possible quality for your listening pleasure! “

For those of you who’d like to know how this Harvested version compares with other pre-FM RoIOs from the same concert, comparative analysis is detailed here after.

Enjoy!

The Harvested Team.
