Rich Robinson - guitars & backing vocals
Marc Ford - guitars & backing vocals
Johnny Colt - bass & backing vocals
Ed Harsch - keyboards
Steve Gorman - drums

Steve’s Show Notes (edited from his Crowesbase post):
- Gov’t Mule opened
- Really nice PAC, much better than the actual town of Lafayette…
- This is my one “gem” from the tour, no other tapers and a VERY “swampy” setlist that fit the region to a tee, a GREAT FTP (“Dixie”), 5 songs from Amorica, a SICK “Black Moon Creeping”, finished up with an Elvis encore. Oh yeah, and a very creepy “Feathers”, too. This show reminds me a lot of the Florida run the week before, except with less rarities, just a sweet overall performance!
Rating : 9/10

“First Time Circulating From The Master” Notes:
- OK, this is an interesting one. This recording did circulate as part of the excellent and comprehensive Scott Weber (“Spider-Web”) project, in which he collected the best sources for the 1996 shows, and mastered and torrented them. For this one, Scott listed the lineage as follows (which he believed to be correct):

Analog Master > DAT > Digital DAT Clone > .WAV > FLAC

Now, 20 years later, the truth comes out! I’ll let Steve tell it:

“I sent Scott 2g cassette copies (made from my safeties), then he got 1g DAT transfers from my buddy Paul (who drank a lot back then), who promised he wouldn’t trade them to Weber, but because I knew he’d get drunk and do so, I put “master” stickers on my 1g’s and sent them to Paul! He then transferred my “masters” and sent them to Weber. I restickered them when Paul sent them back.”

So, bottom line is that while this source has circulated previously, THIS is the first time it will circulate on a transfer directly from the master cassettes!

Mastering Notes:
- Tape flip during the applause after “Hotel Illness” - seamlessly spliced, no music lost.
- Tape flip during the “Encore Break” applause - seamlessly spliced.

R.I.P. Ed Harsch: May 27, 1957 – November 4, 2016

Steve’s Show Notes (edited from his Crowesbase post):
- BR549 opened
- worst venue of the 1st 7 shows, rowdy crowd, only fair vs. stellar acoustics…
- Well, “Under A Mountain” and “Sometimes Salvation” were about the only things that went right with this show (okay, and a RARE “Waitin’ Guilty”), but this show had a weird vibe from the get-go…rent-a-cops outside preventing ‘enjoying nature’ to the rowdy crowd on the verge of a rumble, it’s my humble opinion that the band recognized this with the encore, which SCREAMS early-mid ’98 in it’s song selection. Fortunately,
the next night was the exact opposite
Rating: 8/10

Chris’ism (during “Encore Break”):
- “Don’t know if you knew this, but we’re hap — we were really lucky to have BR549 play with us because Chuck, uh the singer and guitar player on this side, he was uh almost going to be one of the Harlem Globetrotters. And that’s a true story, guaranteed.”

Mastering Notes:
- Tape flip during the first few seconds of “Bad Luck Blue Eyes Goodbye” - seamlessly spliced, but a few seconds of music lost.
- Tape flip during the applause after “Good Friday” - seamlessly spliced, no music lost.

Steve’s Show Notes (edited from his Crowesbase post):
- Gov’t Mule opened
- It’s the Pantages, ‘nuff said.
- A very solid recording, both Eric Nanninga and James Dean were there running tape too, so my recordings of both this and the next night are
somewhat uncirculated…nothing really special or really lame, these were just two very solid performances by a band that needed a rest.
Rating : 8/10

17 Jealous Again

Chris Robinson - lead vocals & harp
Rich Robinson - guitars & backing vocals
Marc Ford - guitars & backing vocals
Johnny Colt - bass & backing vocals
Ed Harsch - keyboards
Steve Gorman - drums

Steve’s Show Notes (edited from his Crowesbase post):
- Gov’t Mule opened
- The Robinson Auditorium is VERY nondescript on the outside (drove around for an hour past that “courthouse looking building” before figuring it out), but solid on the inside, GREAT acoustics.
- While the set looks short, it was a really amazing performance. ALL of the Crowes sat in at the end of Mule’s set for a very moving “I Shall Be Released” (the only other time they did this was for one of the Philly shows). “My Morning Song” was purely savage, and “Tied Up And Swallowed” just kept it going. The double-shot of Dylan was a surprise treat, AND to have “Title Song” also PLUS “Big Time” in the encore, this is another top 10 show from the ’96 run.
Rating : 9/10

For the encore, Barry Slees (from Dave Nelson Band) played pedal steel for the tribute to The New Riders of the Purple Sage.

For tonight, Taper Phil was able to work his connections with the Fillmore staff and got them to relocate the Taper’s section back to its rightful place: close to the center, just left of the board. This recording sounds much better than the previous night’s, thanks to Phil.

Shout out to Cristian (SoCal), Taper Phil (NorCal) and DMan (AllCal)! It was great to hang with you guys.
